Petition to the President, Nov 6, 2010

Here is a template of a petition (written around 6 AM during a surge of creativity) that I intend to hopefully go viral and spread around the world. Hm.. perhaps I should think larger than that: the galaxy.

Petition to the President, Nov 6, 2010

We, the afore signed, having witnessed a lack of sincere intention on the part of Republicans to seek common ground for the benefit of the whole country, strongly urge the President of the United States, Barak H. Obama, to NO LONGER seek compromise, temperance, and reconciliation with Congressional Republicans for the remainder of his two years in public office.

While, ordinarily, compromise, temperance, and reconciliation may be laudable objectives, and while we believe the president is fully capable of such reasonable actions in order to obtain common ground under less extraordinary circumstances, we firmly believe, empirically and vicariously, that gestures of compromise, temperance, and reconciliation, serve the ambitions and desire for power of Congressional Republicans, increase the legitimacy of their strident and truculent conservatism, and increasingly alienate the liberalism that mainstream Americans felt you represented when we elected you.

We, the afore signed, petition President Obama, the intended reader of this message, to heed our plea for a return to strong, confident, and unashamed liberalism. We petition you to banish and to purge the 'stigma’ of mainstream liberal ideals from our public discourse. Strength and confidence are not the sole prevue of conservatism. They are not adjectives for a few to horde. And yet, the many who advocate privately, publicly, and pseudo-anonymously, at kitchen tables and at battle fields, for a more progressive America, are tired of slumbering liberalism, a liberalism afraid to fight, afraid to sweat, and afraid to stand up for its convictions. While compromise IS a liberal ideal, the unmitigated accommodation of opposing ideals IS NOT.

Mr. Obama, your mainstream liberal base needs a champion. We therefore submit theses pseudo-rhetorical questions to, as it were, a candid world:

Will you rise to the occasion?

Will you, on the behalf of millions of citizens, whom we believe to be the less brazen majority of Americans, on behalf of true patriots in real America, NO LONGER seek compromise, temperance, and reconciliation with Congressional Republicans for the remainder of your two years in public office?

Will you lend the unwavering strength and confidence we saw in your election campaign, to the cause of bedrock progressive ideals?

Will you, in the same tradition of those progressives who founded this nation, preserved this nation, and led this nation into modern prosperity, be a champion and an uncompromising fighter unto this cause?

We petition you to do so and we await the answer to these questions though your actions, forthwith.

For, self-evident as it is, your re-election ambitions depends upon it.

Sincerely,

The Afore Signed
